Lead Educator

POSITION SUMMARY: Conducts activities age and developmentally appropriate that promote the social development and educational growth of the individuals in his/her assigned classroom. Assists Child Care Manager as needed in the organization and supervision of activities within the Child Care Program


  1. Create and conduct lesson plans.
  2. Monitors children’s health, safety and physical needs and reports them to Child Care Manager as needed.
  3. Compiles observation documentation for each child in the classroom.
  4. Communicates regularly with parents about children’s progress or needs.
  5. Acts as Lead Educator in the classroom and Lead Educator assistant to other child care workers by fielding questions and directing staff to program manager when needed.
  6. Must complete 24 hours of ongoing early child hood education training per year to comply with CYFD regulations.
  7. Must complete and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
  8. Must complete and maintain all certifications/trainings specific to La Vida Felicidad.
  9. Is familiar with and adheres to all CYFD and Carinio regulations.
  10. Maintains professional demeanor and is a role model for children and staff.
  11. Demonstrates effective oral and written communications skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  12. Enters daily attendance into computer program
  13. Enters weekly billing into computer program
  14. Oversees the Child Care in the event of program manager’s absence.
  15. Member of Quality Assurance Committee who is responsible for auditing files as needed.
  16. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, LVF policy, state and federal law.


  • Attends all department/staff scheduled meetings.
  • When necessary, goes out into the community to build up clientele.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Child Care Manager or Co-Director Early Childhood Services


Under Programs Managers direction, assists in overseen all child care staff including substitute staff.


Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED. CDA preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Early Childhood Education which includes but not limited to Day/Child Care.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to document in a professional manner
  • Time management skills
  • Proficient in computer data entry
  • Is knowledgeable of NM State child Care Regulations
  • Is knowledgeable of NM State 4 STAR Regulations
  • Ability to maintain organized staff records
  • Creates and maintain a functioning safe and interactive classroom

  • Manual dexterity needed for computer and phone work
  • The physical environment requires the employee work indoors and out, in temperature controlled and uncontrolled with respect to adverse conditions. Noise is to be expected.
  • Must be able to manipulate and operate office supplies and equipment.  Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds
  • May require need for flexible schedules, including occasional evening s. (currently until 6pm however this may change in the future).
  • Must have an automobile at his/her disposal; a valid, non-suspended NM driver’s license and a current automobile liability policy and continuous coverage.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check
  • No substantiation or criminal conviction of child abuse or neglect
