DEVELOPMENTAL SPECIALIST II

POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for early intervention services by providing developmental instruction through home visiting services. Employee will work under the supervision of Early Intervention Program Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Family Service Coordination
1. Conduct evaluations and assessments to determine a child’s eligibility for services.
2. Facilitate and participate in the development, review and evaluation of the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
3. Assist families in identifying and accessing all available services.
4. Coordinate with medical and health providers.
5. Participate in Trans-disciplinary Teaming to achieve service integration by working collaboratively and consulting with other disciplines.
(a)Serve as Team Lead when identified as such on the Individualized Family Service Plan ( IFSP)
(b)Participate in consultation with other IFSP team members in order to promote alignment of strategies, a coordinate approach to services, collaboration and co-visits with members of the team.
6. Participate in file reviews and self audits to ensure ongoing compliance with federal/state mandates.
(a)Maintain compliance as identified by the NM Family Infant Toddler Program (FIT) to include: transition timelines, APR indicators, quality assurance practices
(b)Participation in Trainings as identified by the FIT Program
(c)Implementation of quality practices that adhere to state and federal mandates

Developmental Specialist
1. Participate in initial and ongoing assessments/evaluations to ensure child’s eligibility.
2. Participate in Trans-disciplinary Teaming to achieve service integration by working collaboratively and consulting with other disciplines.
(a)Serve as Team Lead when identified as such on the Individualized Family Service Plan ( IFSP)                                       3. Provide developmental instruction activities in the child’s natural environment.
4. Document contacts with the child and family, progress towards individual outcomes, and periodic re-evaluation of progress according to FIT requirements.
5. Responsible for completing a yearly Individualized Professional Development Plan (IPDP) with supervisor.
6. Conduct vision/hearing screenings.
7. Must maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, LVF policy, state and federal law.
8. Maintain professionalism for clients, families, team and community. Must maintain professional boundaries in accordance with best practices.
9. Must maintain current CPR, First Aid, Developmental Specialist II certification and other trainings/certifications as required.
10. Must be comfortable with providing home visiting services in the child’s natural environment, to include home, child care setting and community.

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
•Attend agency staff meetings
•Attend program staff meetings
•Participate in community outreach efforts.
•Perform all other duties as assigned by Early Intervention Manager/Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Requirements
•Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education or other related field. Ability to meet criteria for Developmental Specialist II certification.

Experience Requirements
•Experience working with children ages 0-3 years. Experience working with children and families in natural setting to include; home, child care and community.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities•Must be creative and flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities. Aptitude to handle multiple changing priorities.
•Strong organizational skills, including time management.
•Requires current knowledge of principles and practices of early intervention                                                                    Strong written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills and computer literacy.
•English/Spanish bi-lingual a plus.
